This class is geared towards someone who does not hold a current TX CHL, or whose TX CHL has been expired for more than one year. We will cover all the legal requirements for obtaining a new TX CHL, including the range qualification requirements.

The new CHL class is a 10 hour class. We meet at 8am, and complete at 7:00pm, which provides an hour for lunch. This does include the range qualification portion as well. Breakfast and an afternoon snack will be provided.

What to bring:

  • Notebook for taking notes
  • State issued ID (preferably a driver's license)
  • Documentation for discount^†
  • Your application package if you received it from the state. If you do not have one, we will provide one for you.
  • DO NOT bring your weapon to class unless you are a renewal and carrying concealed as per Texas State Law. We will check firearms at the range qualification, but you will not need them in the classroom.
• Range:
  • .32 Caliber or Larger Handgun
  • 50 rounds ammunition
  • Range Fees (Approximately $15 + tax if you provide your own gun & ammunition.

  If you do not pass on the first attempt you will need an additional 50 rounds of ammunition, so plan accordingly. The range does sell common ammunition types if you run out. If you do not own a gun, you can rent one from the range for a small fee. It is strongly recommended that you qualify with a semi-automatic handgun, because if you qualify with a revolver, then you will only be licensed to carry a revolver; however, if you qualify with a semi-automatic, then you will be able to carry either once you receive your license.

  The range is an indoor range; however, if it is cold or hot outside the range will be similar, so dress accordingly. Eye and ear protection will be provided if you do not have your own.
