Frequently Asked Questions
-
What if I don't pass the class?
You are guaranteed to pass the class. If for some reason you do not pass the exam and / or range qualification we will
work with you to help you with whatever problem arises. If you cannot pass the range qualification during class, we will schedule a one-on-one
range qualification with you on an alternate date until you can pass. If you do not pass, then your class fees will be fully refunded.†
†This refund applies to class fees only. You will still be responsible for the range fees and ammunition for the range qualification and any subsequent range qualifications that are scheduled.
-
What supplies do I need for the class?
You will need to bring the following items:
- Notebook for taking notes
- State issued ID
- Documentation for discount†
- Your application package if you received it from the state. If you do not have one, we will provide one for you.
- DO NOT bring your weapon to class unless you are a renewal and carrying concealed as per Texas State Law. We will check firearms at the range qualification, but you will not need them in the classroom.
†We offer a 25% discount to military (active duty or retired), senior citizens, firefighters, and law enforcement officers. Proof of eligibility is required to receive discount.

What supplies do I need for the range?
You will need to provide a .32 caliber or larger firearm and a minimum of 50 rounds of ammunition.
If you do not pass, you will need an additional 50 rounds of ammunition, so plan accordingly. The range does sell common ammunition
types if you run out. If you do not own a gun, you can rent one from the range for a small fee. It is strongly
recommended that you qualify with a semi-automatic handgun, because if you qualify with a revolver, then you will only be licensed to carry a revolver;
however, if you qualify with a semi-automatic, then you will be able to carry either once you receive your license.
The range is an indoor range; however, if it is cold or hot outside the range will be similar, so dress accordingly. Eye and ear protection
will be provided if you do not have your own.
You will be responsible for the applicable range fees at the time of qualification. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us and
we will get back to you as soon as possible.
-
Do you offer any discounts?
We offer a 25% discount to military (active duty or retired), senior citizens, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and
students who have completed a Basic Proficiency Class with us. Proof of eligibility is required to receive discount. If you qualify for more than one
discount, your total discount will still be only 25%.
-
Can I borrow a gun?
You cannot borrow a gun from someone during the range qualification; however, the range does have guns to rent if you need
one. We discourage sharing of a weapon for safety and time constraints.
-
What if I've never fired a gun before?
This class is focused on helping you obtain a Texas CHL to safely carry a gun. It is assumed that you
are already know how to safely shoot your weapon. We will cover gun safety and basic marksmanship principles prior to the range qualification; however,
if you have never fired a gun before, or if you are unsure of your ability to safely operate a gun, then you should schedule a Basic Proficiency Class
first.
-
What else will I need to do for my CHL besides this class?
At the completion of this class you will only need to have your fingerprints taken.
We provide everything else you will need including:
- 2 Passport Photos
- Application Packet
- Notarized Documents
- Certificate of Completion for Range and Classroom
We do not provide fingerprinting because the state prefers you to have digital prints made. We recommend
that you use Fast Fingerprinting services for this. You will need to take your passport photos with you,
so it is recommended that you do this after you complete the class to avoid having to purchase passport photos on
your own since they are included with your class fee.
